In addition to our already warm, welcoming rooms in this decoratively
lit 250 year old Inn, we have recently expanded to accommodate an
additional 100 seated guests in the traditional old Taban style.
Our winter seasonal menu as well as our weekly house specials and
our usual excellent list of wines welcome one and all to join us
in our restaurant, café and/or wine cellar. The warm and relaxed
ambiance is ideal for a gathering of family or friends for either
lunch or dinner. And we are now able to ensure a private room for
up to 60 -100 people, where our professional and friendly, multi-lingual
waiters will be happy to meet your every need. During the winter
season, for something a little different, we also cater wine-tasting
parties or wine-dinners in our comfortable and intimate wine cellar.

Today, the old-world charm of the Taban is only available to us
through pictures and books. One and two-story houses, narrow streets
and beautiful inner courtyards would describe the old Taban district
of Buda. The last vestige of this bygone era can be found right
here in the historically protected building on the corner of Aprod
u. 10 and Dobrentei u. 9, more recently named the "Virag Benedek
House". Just a few yards from the Castle District's southern steps,
the building was built in two phases during the last half of the
1700s. Originally built as an Inn, it later became an apartment
house, then a dye works and finally a bakery. The poet, classical
translator, and historical writer, Mr. Benedek Virag, for whom the
building was named in 2002, lived in this building. The building's
current appearance was completed in 1961. Since then, the site has
undergone three year's of renovations and can now proudly be considered
an historical representation of the Taban for visitors to Budapest
and an important site in the capital city of Hungary. A permanent
historical exhibit entitled "Taban Mosaics" accessible from within
the inner courtyard of the restaurant is open for your interested
pleasure.
The restaurant was founded in order to reawaken the romantic
and gastronomic pleasures of the Taban and revive the interest of
visitors to Budapest in this historical period of our past. The
interior of this building comprises four separate culinary opportunities.
